CROSSFIGURATIONS
Booth 25 - Caribbean Spotlight
1-54 NY | May 8-11, 2025
The group show Crossfigurations, curated by ATLANTIC ARTHOUSE for the 1-54 African Contemporary Art Fair’s 2025 Caribbean Spotlight, explores the interconnectedness and overlapping of figurative and bodily representations in Caribbean cultures and narratives from different countries and territories. Through illustrations of tradition, history, migration and street culture, the figures emerging from the works of eleven artists from the Caribbean Mid-Atlantic carry voices expressing the universal language of humanity. The symbolic references to spirituality, religion or beliefs invite us to look for similarities across the continents, rather than separate them. The Caribbean Spotlight bridges Africa, the African Diaspora and the rest of the world.
For this 1-54 Caribbean Spotlight, curated by ATLANTIC ARTHOUSE Co-Founders Lisa Howie and Vanessa Selk, our collective is partnering with three galleries (Moss Galleries, Bordon’s Studio, Black Pony Gallery) and one fair (Fuze Art Fair), and presenting eleven exceptional visual artists from the region:

- Jason Bennett (The Bahamas/USA) | FUZE Caribbean Art Fair
- Danielle (Dede) Brown (The Bahamas) | Black Pony Gallery
- Ronald Cyrille (Guadeloupe/Dominica)
- Mark Delmont (Haiti/Jamaica/USA)
